Human language is so wonderful. The basic of it seems to explain how mankinds function. How people think. How we feel. What dictates the right course of actions. What is moral and immoral.

Im guessing everyone is familar with the word 'duty'. Often not you would hear someone says 'duties as a father' or 'duties as a soldier'. Everyone have some ideas what duties are and what they meant to them. Duties can simply mean 'something that one is expected or required to do by moral or legal obligation' or to put in simpler terms 'a task or chore that a person is expected to do'. One would have lots of duties in his course of life, depending on his role in the society, family, business, relationship and legal bounding ones. Duties of a parent, a law-abiding citizen, a brother, a debt garantor or a loved one. People would have most of such duties. Some less, some more, but no doubt at least a couple.

And what do people make do of such duties? Or to put it blunty, moral obligation. The society views of what you should do when you partake certain role in life. Perfom your duties well. Is but a common saying. Duties are meant to be performed. And what does perform means?

To those accustomed in the music and arts, perform would means being on stage and showcase your speciality. Whether it is music making or dancing, one would have to be at his best. For all his practice under the stage were meant for this short fleeting performance on it. Perform also means 'to fulfill a command, promise, or undertaking'. Not doing it halfheartedly, but putting your best for it. Like a performer doing his all out best to give the best show he can!

Putting them together 'perform duties', would simply means that you have to do your best in your task which you are morally obligated to do. 'Doing your duties' does not sound good enough. Its funny that 'perform' would be the best choice of word to go with 'duty'. What does this means to all of us? Know your roles. Know your duties. And perform them. If you feel that somewhere along the way, you would not be able to accomplish your duties exceedingly well, then I suggest you think twice about taking up the role. However, not all roles are self-imposed. Then I can only wish you good luck and God speed.

Remember duties are meant to be performed. Not 'lip-serviced'.
